Collection of Drawings of Minerals

The collection is composed of highly colourful drawings of minerals and are organised into five volumes of accompanying notes. Manuscript notes in the volumes indicate that the drawings are arranged in families according to the system of Professor Robert Jameson (1774-1854).

Letter from James Geikie to Professor Dunn, 28 February 1887

Scope and Contents The letter is dated 28 February 1887, at 10 Bright['s] Crescent, presumably in Edinburgh. It appears to begin, 'Dear Prof. Dunn'. Geikie regrets that he 'shall be unable to attend the Council meeting for t. night - I am not allowed to go out in the evening'. He remarks how it is 'a terrible loss to the Society in the death of our dear friend Mr. Gray!' It finishes with autograph signature, James Geikie. The sepia-tint head and shoulders portrait photograph is mounted on buff card. There is an embossed stamp for the Photographer, Russell, [75] Baker Street, London. Because of the London-based photographer, the portrait photograph is perhaps more likely to have been taken during Holland's period of office as Rector of Imperial College, London, 1922-1929.
